Environments that Inspire Learning
Fans Direct has secured two contracts from Skanska as part of its Bristol Building Schools for the Future programme. The contract forms part of the first of the Governments' National Building Schools for the Future programme. The BSF initiative is being pioneered by Bristol and three other "Pathfinder" authorities. Skanska, Bristol City Council and Partnerships for Schools have formed a Local Education Partnership (LEP), which is 80% owned by Skanska. The programme, which provides a platform to replace secondary schools in Bristol with new schools on the same sites, has been carried out under the ethos of "transforming education". The project seeks to develop solutions that offer affordable, sustainable facilities that enhance the lives of the users. We were first approached by Skanska to utilise their wealth of experience in ventilating schools, having been involved in several high profile projects across the country. With issues concerning indoor air quality within schools becoming increasingly important, delivering a ventilation system which creates a fresh, healthy and comfortable learning environment for both teachers and pupils is paramount. Fans Direct worked in partnership with Skanska throughout the ventilation design stage and were able to deliver a fast response to meet the specific requirements of the job. Stuart Smith, Fans Direct Regional Sales Manager for the South, commented, "We were awarded the contract as a result of our ability to offer client focused solutions as well as a competitive range of innovative products. Fans Direct not only offered conventional ventilation solutions but also were able to create bespoke state of the art heat recovery systems and controls. The controls were linked in with the Building Management System providing on demand ventilation, minimising energy consumption and carbon emissions and also prolonging the life of the equipment." Construction of Bristol Brunel Academy, formerly Speedwell Technology College and Whitefields Fishponds Community School commenced last year, Bristol Brunel Academy is due for completion in September 2007. Both facilities will provide advanced learning environments based on state of the art building and ICT to ensure all education can be delivered using the latest technology. The programme covers the development, financing and operation of these facilities for 25 years following their completion.
Ultimate demand controlled ventilation
Unless a ventilation system is balanced and commissioned properly, it will often lead to over-ventilation, resulting in higher energy costs than necessary. The new CVD 100 damper enables precise control of air volumes to accurately meet your design requirements, using mems technology (micro-electro-mechanical system) which provides precise measurements and flow rates. Externally adjusted settings reduce time on site, enabling simple installation, commissioning and maintenance. By only ventilating where you want and when you want the CVD damper provides a low energy ventilation solution addressing the need for carbon emission reduction as well as reducing costs.

Video Animation
As a company at the forefront of the ventilation industry, Fans Direct makes use of the latest technology where it can enhance our customer’s understanding of our products. As a result the marketing department has created 3D animations to demonstrate our products in action. At the moment 3D animation is available on Car Park Impulse fans and Constant Pressure fans with more planned over the next few months. 3D animation allows us to explain the features and benefits of our products far more effectively than a brochure could. As Seen on TV ...
Fans Direct's reputation for supplying innovative products and aesthetically pleasing installations has made its way on the small screen. Channel 4's hugely popular series Grand Designs, fronted by design guru Kevin McCloud, recently aired the Art Deco house in Guildford. The aim of this ambitious new build property was to build an authentically art deco house that incorporates 21st century efficiency. The striking self build property has a great deal of Art Deco styling built into the fabric of the property and it was important to keep both the exterior and interior looking clean and sharp. The 2 MVHR-LP units were chosen due to their low depth which meant that they could be easily recessed into ceiling and floor voids, avoiding unsightly duct runs. The units which comply with the new building regulations and achieve a New Build 'good practice' rating in GPG268, provide a constant supply of fresh, tempered and filtered air into the home whilst removing moisture from the wet areas. Continuous and controllable ventilation not only minimises unused heat but also creates a highly energy efficient and well ventilated environment.
